Megan and Stephen Nelson

Michael was fantastic! He sang during the ceremony and cocktail hour at our wedding, and then was our emcee and DJ for the reception. Not only was he a wonderful singer--you could feel the heart and soul he poured into each song we asked him to sing--but he was also a very professional--verifying he knew how to pronounce the bridal party's names--, yet a fun DJ who knew what the crowd needed and when. The songs he chose to play during the reception kept our guests on the dance floor all night! From the very beginning of the wedding planning process up to our wedding day, Michael and Still Listening Productions were responsive, easygoing, understanding, accommodating and professional. I will attempt to put into words how amazing Michael Tiernan is, even though I don’t think words do him justice … everyone should experience MIchael’s amazingness in person! My new husband and I hired Michael during the beginning stages of our wedding planning after seeing him perform live many times. I was super excited to have him do live guitar and vocals for our ceremony, but when I got in touch with him, I found out that he provided DJ services as well … what a find!!! From the very beginning, Michael was super attentive, fun, easy and pleasant to work with. He met with us several times to make sure our wedding music would be everything we had dreamed of. It turns out that it was so much more than we could’ve hoped for! He even learned a song for us that turned out incredibly, “Such Great Heights”, Iron and Wine style! It was completely beautiful. He also performed “I want to hold your hand” for our recessional, and it was the PERFECT tempo … a tempo he created all on his own! And as I walked down the aisle, he performed an instrumental version of Jason Mraz’ “I’m Yours”… when I initially told him that’s what I wanted, he sent me a sample of him doing the song with and without lyrics, so I could decide which I wanted…he is SOOO accommodating :)

Everything went so smoothly on our wedding day, May 29, 2011. Our guests continue telling us what a great energy Michael had and how much they enjoyed the music…and once the dancing started, Michael read our crowd perfectly and kept things flowing beautifully! He found a way to work in most of the songs we had requested to be played, and the rest were great too. All of his announcements were so classy and professional, while still feeling fun and easy going. We couldn’t have asked for more…my only regret was not acknowledging his awesomeness out loud in front of all our guests! My husband and I were so thrilled that we chose Michael to provide the music on our most special day! Highly, highly, recommend!!! Thank you Michael!

My husband and I hired Michael to DJ/MC at our wedding reception as well as play some live music during dinner and for our first dance. This was one of the best decisions we made for our big day. Michael is extremely talented as well as one of the nicest guys we’ve met. He did such an amazing job that we didn’t want the night to end and kept extending our reception so he would continue to entertain us. He played one of his original songs for our first dance (“You and Me”) and it was the only time I cried the entire wedding. It was just beautiful. We had Michael play live music for our ceremony and cocktail hour and DJ/MC for our reception. He did a tremendous job and we were so happy with his work. We received a lot of compliments from our guests on his live music, many especially liking little twists he made to normal songs. After having gone to a wedding where a DJ was terrible, I am so glad Michael was the opposite of that. That terrible DJ spent a ton of time talking about himself and trying to crack jokes but Michael did a great job balancing MC-ing, when he spoke enough but not too much. He got the crowd excited for our entrances and directed guests to what was going on and kept the evening flowing nicely. The music selection was exactly what we had asked for and he was able to read the crowd really well. He is also very professional and responsive and was a pleasure to work with. He really helped make our wedding day the best day of our lives. I would recommend his live music playing and his DJings/MCing to anyone!! Thank you Michael!!

Michael was the best!

First, we had him perform live at our wedding ceremony, accompanied by one of the tremendous violinists that he knows. They played a beautiful and seamless mix of classical and contemporary pieces by Mozart, the Beatles, James Taylor, Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, and Bach. It was an enormous outdoor venue, and the sound system he brought was completely up to the task. Our guests were awed while they waited for the ceremony to begin, and Michael’s music also stopped traffic along the bay walk, as dozens of strangers watched and listened to the performance. But nothing was as great as the combination of their live music and the image of my gorgeous bride walking down the isle with her dad. Easily the best moment of my life!

After the ceremony, Michael played live for our cocktail reception. He’s a master at gauging the energy in the room, then switching the vibes of his song selections (here I mean the mix of songs — but also of course all the easier stuff, like volume, tempo, fade-outs, etc.). We love a number of his original songs, so we had him intersperse those with oldtime favorites and some contemporary hits we requested in advance. It was awesome.

Finally, we had Michael deejay the reception itself. His sound and lighting equipment was great, and he did an excellent job as “master of ceremony” — introducing us to our guests, making special announcements, getting the mic to all the right people, carefully cueing nervous family members to start their speeches, and so forth. Michael even learned and memorized our wedding song (a quirky, off-air song from a Midwest band we love), so that he could perform it live for us later in the night. As I said, he’s simply the best.

Where do we begin?  We were lucky enough to work with Mike at our wedding at The Dana on Mission Bay two years ago.  He not only DJ-d our reception superbly (people still talk about how much they danced at our wedding), he also played live music during our ceremony (amazing acoustic guitar) and cocktail hour.  Music throughout our wedding day was really important to us and Mike was truly incredible at delivering exactly what we wanted and more. He was an exceptionally great emcee – always easy-going, professional and fun.  He was also just incredibly gracious and easy to work with – he genuinely wants your day to turn out exactly how you planned. He really made an effort to get to know us so that he could do just that. He is also a great talent – he was able to perform songs for us that were not on his traditional list and he really just knocked them out of the park. He was always patient when we changed our minds and great at offering suggestions when we needed them. We cannot say enough about him. Michael is SERIOUSLY the best! We really wanted a classy event and not a “cheesy” DJ at our wedding. You know the kind, they play some seriously bad songs, announce the bridal party like they are a basketball team and just aren’t what you had in mind for your wedding day.

Michael is seriously not that kind of DJ, and THANK GOD! He was amazing. Announced our bridal party with class and played amazing songs. We had some that we suggested and trusted him with the rest. Our wedding was a mix of old and young people and I LOVED LOVED LOVED how he played some of the oldies but goodies first and slowly mixed in some newer music. That way all of the older guests would dance and by the time they left the reception, since most don’t stay the whole time, the party was really getting fun with all the younger guests enjoying newer music.

I couldn’t be happier with his services. Such a nice guy and so professional. I would recommend him to anyone!

Michael came highly recommended by our wedding planner and we found out why! We got married on September 26, 2010 at La Valencia Hotel. After performing during the ceremony he did his acoustic music for an extended cocktail hour. The music he chose for that was perfect! While we were busy getting our pictures done we knew our guests were taken care of. So many of them commented on what a wonderful job he did! We then went inside for the dinner and reception we he continued to do an amazing job by being low key when needed and turning the speed up to get everyone on the dance floor! I cannot put into words how wonderful Michael Tiernan is! Skyler and I first saw Michael playing live at a bridal expo at The Crossings (our future wedding venue) and immediately fell in love! Michael is more than what you will expect him to be regardless what you hire him for. He truly is a master of music, professionalism with the perfect easy-going “coolness” you want at your event. Michael played live guitar/vocals for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour and then DJ’ed our reception. He listened to the ideas and the vision we had, gracefully added some alternatives that we had not considered and created an plan that was spot on. When anyone talks about our wedding I kid you not, it starts with, “Dude your DJ was awesome!” And then they go into how great the guitar playing was at both the ceremony and the cocktail hour. Then everyone talks about how great the music selection was for the reception! Michael was amazing in picking all the songs. We literally picked out maybe 25 songs and he picked the rest just seeing our song selection! It made that part of the wedding process so easy that we could concentrate on all the other stuff like flowers, cake, etc. We have recommended him to everyone we know getting married from San Diego to LA. One of the best parts of our wedding, and we had an amazing wedding! We got Michaels name on a referral from another DJ that was a referral and busy for our day and we were so lucky to find him. He learned our first dance song so he could sing it acoustic with his guitar and the worst part is that I dont have any video of it! Everyone at the wedding raved about the DJ, he is worth all of the money, he really kept the wedding going and people having fun! I will hire him in an instant when we renew our vows!!!

Just wanted to leave a note about Collin, who works with Michael. We had dragged our feet in looking for a DJ because we knew it was so important to the feel of the wedding, and were afraid of what we’d find. “I consider myself very honored to have performed wedding ceremonies where Michael Tiernan has performed. He adds a unique touch to the ceremonies by gifting us with his amazing talent as a singer – musician as well as DJ services. He has several CD’s out and is so creative in writing and producing. “Simply, our wedding would not have been the same without Collin. He was very

involved in the planning process, and made it so fun.

We got married on August 11 at Keys Creek Lavender Farm. He played the

guitar and sang during our service, and he sounds amazing. He learned the

songs we asked him to, and was helpful in suggesting song choices when we

were stuck. He also played guitar and sang for our first dance. It was such a memorable moment.

He’s great at keeping the evening going, and keeping everyone upbeat. But he

doesn’t try to steal the spotlight in any way (unlike other dj’s I’ve seen

at other weddings. An he dresses the part, and looks professional but fits

in with the venue.

After our wedding, everyone wanted to talk to us about Collin. They all were

Dave and Alia got married June 1st, 2013, at their home, with Collin providing the live acoustic jams for ceremony and cocktail, and rocked the party after. Colin exceeded our expectations by about 5 million percent, it was unbelievable and every guest loved him. He played all of our favorite music but threw in just the right amount of his own to keep the party going perfectly.

You are also a fantastic musician and your live set was awesome, another part that just made the whole day. Finally at the end of the night when Alia and I felt nothing could be more fun, Colin jumped up on top of the fence with his guitar, orchestrated a fire exit and belted out the Lumineers, Ho Hey, with more emotion and love than the band themselves. Alia and I were in shock and so overwhelmed with emotion we could barely speak. Working with you was like hanging with an old friend (completely effortless), we consider you a friend and hope to refer you and your company as much work as possible.

If we had to rate your performance on a scale of 1 to 10, we give it a 20! Again, every guest came up to us and said where did you find this person, we have never seen anything like it. You made the party a party and that is exactly what we wanted, thank you.”

Erica married her man Brandon at the lovely Ranch House at Del Sur on May 24th, 2013 – What a celebration! Here’s what the mother-of-the-bride had to say:

“My daughter hired Michael Tiernan for her wedding last week and I can’t say enough about his skills as a musician, DJ, and emcee for the evening!!!

His rendition of “Marry Me” on his acoustic guitar had everyone tearing up as the wedding began. Michael has an impressive range. In fact, he was able to sing everything from Guns and Roses to Dire Straits to Sixpence None the Richer.

In addition to his considerable talent as a musician, is his ability to pace his songs to match the slow dance needed for the “non-dancing” father-of-the bride vs. the upbeat fun enjoyed by the groom and his mother!

Michael moved our guests smoothly from cocktails to dinner; from speeches to busting their moves on the dance floor (not an easy task for any DJ facing a crowd aged 3 to 72). Throughout the evening, the dance floor was NEVER empty – something I haven’t seen at a wedding in years!

We had Michael play at our reception in Palm Desert, CA recently and he did an amazing job. He started out by playing acoustic during the cocktail hour and then followed by DJing the reception. It seemed as if almost every guest made sure to tell us how much they enjoyed his music through out the night. We had Michael play Dave Matthews “Loving Wings” for our first dance and he nailed it. We had the honor of having Collin Elliott perform and DJ at our wedding. From beginning to end, Collin was engaged and invested in making our wedding day special. He had the unusual challenge of setting up sound systems in four different areas, and did so flawlessly.

At the ceremony he played acoustic guitar. I will always treasure walking down the aisle to a beautifully played acoustic “Something” by the Beatles.

At cocktail hour he played a tasteful compilation of songs, keeping people of all ages entertained.

Dinner was perfectly mic’d up for speeches and had upbeat music at the appropriate volume for people to converse while still enjoying the background music.

For our first dance, my husband and Collin worked together to surprise me . Collin’s low-tempo, acoustic rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” left me in a state of sheer joy. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Even my wedding planner, who has worked weddings for 20 years, said she has never seen such a touching first dance, and we owe that to Collin.

Collin kept everyone on the dance floor all night, sticking to some of our selections and making experienced choices from there.

Lastly, while setting up our sparkler exit, Collin made the exceptional call to play songs with which wedding guests could interact and sing along. It was another magical moment thanks to Collin.

Collin is the best! My wife had a difficult time picking a lot of vendors for the wedding but music was not one of them because we talked to Collin first. He made picking out the feel for the music easy with extended lists to pick music from and songs that need to be on the “must play” and “absolutely not list.”

At the wedding and cocktail hour he played live and it was unbelievably good! He is incredibly talented and was really able to set the tone for the wedding we wanted. Everyone couldn’t stop raving about how good he was throughout the whole wedding and as far as DJ’ing went – people wouldn’t leave the dance floor the entire wedding. The guy was incredible with ease, super nice, and great to work with. He really made our wedding and we are very grateful for him. At the end of the wedding he jumped on a table and played one last send off song with the entire wedding involved and capped off the best day of our lives while we danced it out.

The guy was one of the best parts of our wedding and we recommend him to everyone cause he’s the best. Thanks much Collin!

When looking for our wedding musician and DJ, we asked a few of our other vendors for recommendations, and they ALL had Michael at the top of their lists. We then spoke with him and a few others. He followed up our call with a personalized video giving us a sampling of his acoustic performance of a couple of our favorite songs. At this point, Michael clearly stood out from all the others, and we had to hire him!

My wife and I live in Boston and were planning a destination wedding in the San Diego area. Overall, planning was a challenge being across the country, but Michael made it very easy to plan our music. Overall we couldn’t have asked for more from Michael. He was very professional, and genuinely the nicest guy. He went out of his way to learn a couple new songs for us for our ceremony, which he performed beautifully.

We had a change in schedule and added a new venue for our ceremony (separate from our reception site), and Michael was very flexible to accommodate the late changes.

Michael noted all the little details from all of our discussions to really personalize the music selection. My wife and I live in Boston, and during one of our conversations with Michael we mentioned how cool it would be to incorporate “Sweet Caroline” somehow into the music selection. Michael ended up surprising us at the end of the night by gathering everyone onto the dance floor and performed an acoustic version of “Sweet Caroline” while we all sang along. It was a very memorable moment, and a special touch to the evening.

We live in Denver but just got married in San Diego. When we told our wedding planner what we were looking for she immediately suggested Josh Bonas. We wanted live music played during our ceremony, with a violinist, live music during our cocktail hour and then a dj during the reception. Josh met all of our needs. He has a great voice and was willing to learn and prerecord some of the songs so that we could hear how he would sound at the wedding. We did a lot of songs during our ceremony Josh had not done before, but when he performed them the day of our wedding it was actually how we imagined it. He was a great addition to the wedding. Our guests loved his live music during cocktail hour. He played country, rock, top 40′s, anything we could have wanted. It truly made our cocktail hour seem personal and more intimate. During the reception he played everything we requested. We had some pretty strange requests but he followed them and did an amazing job. Our guests raved about how great the music was, how great his voice was, and how nice and professional he was. If I had to do our wedding all over again I would chose Josh every time. He was very accommodating with helping us out long distance, and meeting with us when we happened to be in San Diego. He is a great guy and whenever I am in San Diego I will look him up to hear him perform. I would offer Josh the highest of recommendations and even let Josh know if any of his future clients have any questions they can please reach out to me.

Michael was the musician and DJ at our wedding a few weeks ago in April. We had heard that he was the best in town when we booked him last year, and there is a reason he and his company have that reputation. Not only is Michael an extremely talented singer/songwriter who can play any song you request, he is an awesome emcee for any event and can really get the party started. Through the planning process, he was so easy to work with and incredibly helpful with all of our questions and silly requests. When my fiancé (Laura) was planning our wedding reception, one of my biggest concerns was the music. I’ve been to many receptions where there is an obnoxious DJ playing music at about 200 decibels and demanding that people get on the dance floor. Laura assured me that Tolan was understanding of my concerns and wanted to help us have the type of event that we hoped for. When she told me he was also a talented musician, I was sold. Musicians understand people as well as music.

Tolan put together our playlist and program that was perfect for the event. The dance floor was always crowded with guests having a great time.

I hired Jonny Tarr for my big day without ever having met him. I just had a good vibe that he was the one that would make my wedding an epic celebration. It’s now been a week since my husband and I got married and all of our guests are still talking about how amazing the music was from the ceremony to the last song of the reception. People who didn’t even attend have been commenting on how they heard our music was the best at any wedding they had ever heard. My husband and I are both in the military and our group of friends attends a lot of weddings so that is saying a lot. I came down the aisle to an acoustic version of “All of Me”, the cocktail hour led to some live Coldplay and Bruno Mars and we entered the ballroom to an emceed “Turn Down for What” to start the party off right. I get chills thinking about how amazing the music was and how talented Jonny and Michael both are. Not to mention they are absolute gentlemen and super fun and Jonny’s accent is awesome. Michael Tiernan is simply amazing – seriously, you shouldn’t even be debating on whether you should book him – book him right now! Michael truly made our wedding day so special – he is a super talented musician, but more importantly, just an awesome guy. My wedding planner, Staci Tiras-Jones from Bliss Events, highly recommended him because I wanted to have live music and a DJ (originally was looking to book two different people). My husband and I went to hear him play during the week and we were blown away – in fact, we continued to bring friends out to hear him even after booking because he is just a really fun performer. All through the process, he is really easy to work with and helped give great suggestions for songs and for our lights (he did our Gobo and uplighting, which looked awesome!). On the actual wedding day, he sang/played guitar for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and our first dance. It was really awesome because he worked on an instrumental song for me for the bridesmaid’s processional (Led Zeppelin – Bron-Yr-Aur) and also did an amazing slowed down version of Mumford & Sons – I Will Wait for my processional. I also have to call out the fact that both my husband and I were debating between two songs for our first dance, so Michael sent us a video of him playing both to help us decide – how nice is that?! The DJ’ing portion of evening was perfect…the dance floor was always packed – people didn’t want to leave it! The last song of our wedding was really special too – Michael really makes your wedding the best day ever. I wish I could re-live the night again!! I can’t tell you how many comments we received afterward saying how awesome Michael was – truly, I feel honored to have had him be a part of our wedding day. Highly recommend! Thank you Michael!!!!
