I will attempt to put into words how amazing Michael Tiernan is, even though I don’t think words do him justice…everyone should experience MIchael’s amazingness in person! My new husband and I hired Michael during the beginning stages of our wedding planning after seeing him perform live many times. I was super excited to have him do live guitar and vocals for our ceremony, but when I got in touch with him , I found out that he provided DJ services as well…what a find!!! From the very beginning, Michael was super attentive, fun, easy and pleasant to work with. He met with us several times to make sure our wedding music would be everything we had dreamed of. It turns out that it was so much more than we could’ve hoped for! He even learned a song for us that turned out incredible, “Such Great Heights”, Iron and Wine style! It was completely beautiful. He also performed “I want to hold your hand” for our recessional, and it was the PERFECT tempo…a tempo he created all on his own! And as I walked down the aisle, he performed an instrumental version of Jason Mraz’ “I’m Yours”…when I initially told him that’s what I wanted, he sent me a sample of him doing the song with and without lyrics, so I could decide which I wanted…he is SOOO accommodating
Everything went so smoothly on our wedding day, May 29, 2011. Our guests continue telling us what a great energy Michael had and how much they enjoyed the music…and once the dancing started, Michael read our crowd perfectly and kept things flowing beautifully! He found a way to work in most of the songs we had requested to be played, and the rest were great too. All of his announcements were so classy and professional, while still feeling fun and easy going. We couldn’t have asked for more…my only regret was not acknowledging his awesomeness out loud in front of all our guests! My husband and I were so thrilled that we chose Michael to provide the music on our most special day! Highly, highly, recommend!!! Thank you Michael!
My husband and I hired Michael to DJ/MC at our wedding reception as well as play some live music during dinner and for our first dance. This was one of the best decisions we made for our big day. Michael is extremely talented as well as one of the nicest guys we’ve met. He did such an amazing job that we didn’t want the night to end and kept extending our reception so he would continue to entertain us. He played one of his original songs for our first dance (“You and Me”) and it was the only time I cried the entire wedding. It was just beautiful. We were married over a year and a half ago and I still have guests asking me about Michael and commenting on how wonderful he was that night.
Since our wedding day, we have been to some of Michaels events around town. He is so amazing and we will continue to be fans until the very end!! Thank you Michael for making our wedding day one of the best and most memorable days of our lives!! We would highly recommend Michael Tiernan to provide the entertainment for your special day. Just amazing!!!
We had Michael play live music for our ceremony and cocktail hour and DJ/MC for our reception. He did a tremendous job and we were so happy with his work. We received a lot of compliments from our guests on his live music, many especially liking little twists he made to normal songs. After having gone to a wedding where a DJ was terrible, I am so glad Michael was the opposite of that. That terrible DJ spent a ton of time talking about himself and trying to crack jokes but Michael did a great job balancing MC’ing, where he spoke enough but not too much. He got the crowd excited for our entrances and directed guests to what was going on and kept the evening flowing nicely. The music selection was exactly what we had asked for and he was able to read the crowd really well. He is also very professional and responsive and was a pleasure to work with. He really helped make our wedding day the best day of our lives. I would recommend his live music playing and his DJings/MCing to anyone!! Thank you Michael!!
Michael was the best!
First, we had him perform live at our wedding ceremony, accompanied by one of the tremendous violinists that he knows. They played a beautiful and seamless mix of classical and contemporary pieces by Mozart, the Beetles, James Taylor, Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, and Bach. It was an enormous outdoor venue, and the sound system he brought was completely up to the task. Our guests were awed while they waited for the ceremony to begin, and Michael’s music also stopped traffic along the bay-walk, as dozens of strangers watched and listened to their performance. But nothing was as great as the combination of their live music and the image of my gorgeous bride walking down the isle with her dad. Easily the best moment of my life!
After the ceremony, Michael played live for our cocktail reception. He’s a master at gauging the energy in the room, then switching the vibes of his song selections (here I mean the mix of songs — but also of course all the easier stuff, like volume, tempo, fade-outs, etc.). We love a number of his original scores, so we had him intersperse those with oldtime favorites and some contemporary hits we requested in advance. It was awesome.
Finally, we had Michael deejay the reception itself. His sound and lighting equipment was great, and he did an excellent job as “master of ceremony” — introducing us to our guests, making special announcements, getting the mic to all the right people, carefully cuing nervous family members to start their speeches, and so forth. Michael even learned and memorized our wedding song (a quirky, off-air song from a Midwest band we love), so that he could perform it live for us later in the night. As I said, he’s simply the best.

Where do we begin? We were lucky enough to work with Mike at our wedding at The Dana on Mission Bay two years ago. He not only dj-d our reception superbly (people still talk about how much they danced at our wedding), he also played live music during our ceremony (amazing acoustic guitar) and cocktail hour. Music throughout our wedding day was really important to us and Mike was truly incredible at delivering exactly what we wanted and more. He was an exceptionally great emcee – always easy going, professional and fun. He was also just incredibly gracious and easy to work with – he genuinely wants your day to turn out exactly how you planned. He really made an effort to get to know us so that he could do just that. He is also a great talent – he was able to perform songs for us that were not on his traditional list and he really just knocked them out of the park. He was always patient when we changed our minds and great at offering suggestions when we needed them. We cannot say enough about him. Thank you for everything Mike! We are so grateful and highly, highly recommend him!

He is such a versatile and amazing musician- we had him play the steel string guitar for our ceremony, perform at the cocktail hour and DJ the reception. Our wedding was inspired by old Hollywood and Michael even took the time to learn a few new Sinatra and Rat Pack songs for our event! Beyond being an incredible musician, he is absolutely wonderful to work with. He took the time to meet with us, work through all of our song specifics, and give suggestions when we needed them. Michael is SERIOUSLY the best! We really wanted a classy event and not a “cheesy” dj at our wedding. You know the kind, they play some seriously bad songs, announce the bridal party like they are a basketball team and just aren’t what you had in mind for your wedding day.
Michael is seriously not that kind of Dj, and THANK GOD! He was amazing. Announced our bridal party with class and played amazing songs. We had some that we suggested and trusted him with the rest. Our wedding was a mix of old and young people and I LOVED LOVED LOVED how he played some of the oldies, but goodies first and slowly mixed in some newer music. That way all of the older guests would dance and by the time they left the reception, since most don’t stay the whole time, the party was really getting fun with all the younger guests enjoying newer music.
I couldn’t be happier with his services. Such a nice guy and so professional. I would recommend him to anyone!
Michael came highly recommended by our wedding planner and we found out why! We got married on 9/26/10 at La Valencia Hotel. After performing the ceremony he did his acoustic music for an extended cocktail hour. The music he chose for that was perfect! While we were busy getting our pictures done we knew our guests were taken care of. So many of them commented on what a wonderful job he did! We then went inside for the dinner and reception we he continued to do an amazing job by being low key when needed and turning the speed up to get everyone on the dance floor! He did an awesome job reading the crowd! We danced all night! His announcements were at the right time and not annoying like some DJs can be. He took the time to learn what kind of music we liked and tailored the songs just for us. Michael is very professional, courteous, a great musician and we would highly recommend him to others planning their big day!

I cannot put into words how wonderful Michael Tiernan is! Skyler and I first saw Michael playing live at a bridal expo at The Crossings (our future wedding venue) and immediately fell in love! He is beyond talented and I loved the idea of acoustic music during the ceremony and cocktail hour and a DJ during the reception. We immediately booked Michael for our wedding a year later and during our planning saw him play live a few other times and knew we had made the right decision. He was able to put a special personal touch on the music he played during the ceremony and I will forever remember how special it was. He was an amazing DJ and played all the right music! He was also very good at keeping us on schedule through out the reception which was beyond helpful since I had a million things on my mind. Michael went above and beyond all my expectations and helped to make our wedding day extra special and memorable. I would recommend Michael to anyone else in a heart beat and we’ll definitely continue to see him play live now that the wedding is over. First of all, Michael was the consummate professional. Everything on the business side of things went 100% smoothly.
Most importantly, he is INCREDIBLY talented not only as a musician but as an MC. He turned our wedding into a spectacular party with a combination of live processional music, a live happy hour with his three piece band, and live music/DJ services for our reception. He brought an energy and an enthusiasm to our party that was contagious.
Michael is a great guy, a pleasure to work with, and he really cares to make the big day as special as possible. He is the best!

Michael is more than what you will expect him to be regardless what you hire him for. He truly is a master of music, professionalism with the perfect easy-going “coolness” you want at your event. Michael played live guitar/vocals for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour and then DJ’ed our reception. We never met him prior to our destination wedding and somehow he made music planning one of the easiest things we did. He listened to the ideas and the vision we had, gracefully added some alternatives that we had not considered and created an plan that was spot on. Aside from am incredibly easy and comfortable planning process, the day of logistics were seamless and invisible to me. Possibly the greatest compliment came from our guests – we continue to get amazing comments on Michael from our guests. Interestingly enough, those compliments have applauded his musical talent as much as him as a person, an energy and a perfectly classy, low profile master of ceremony.
It goes without saying, he is an incredibly talented musician with a wonderful ability to sing and play the guitar. But, even beyond this, he is also the guy you would welcome to sit at your head table to mingle with your family and friends. Michael invests in his work very differently than most people in the industry that in all truthfulness can become repetitive. We would recommend Michael to any friend.

When anyone talks about our wedding I kid you not, it starts with, “Dude your DJ was awesome!” And then they go into how great the guitar playing was at both the ceremony and the cocktail hour. Then everyone talks about how great the music selection was for the reception! Michael was amazing in picking all the songs. We literally picked out maybe 25 songs and he picked the rest just seeing our song selection! It made that part of the wedding process so easy that we could concentrate on all the other stuff like flowers, cake, etc. We have recommended him to everyone we know getting married from San Diego to LA. One of our friends interviewed a bunch of DJs and told us that Michael was the nicest and most professional one of all of them! Michael created the perfect atmosphere for our entire wedding. From the ceremony, to the cocktail hour to the reception, his music made for a consistently perfect night. Michael’s experience made us feel at ease and he made the entire planning process a breeze. Not only did we get a great service for our wedding but we also got a great friend!
All I can say is to repeat what Jennifer wrote….anyone who can make Jennifer and Dan that happy rates as one of the BEST!!! I, also, love Michael’s music, as well as his voice, personality, and character. He’s a rare find!!!
Good food, good wine and good music make for a great wedding. On the music, we absolutely got it right with Michael. He was fantastic and all of our guests not only loved it but we got great comments on the music long after the wedding was over.
Michael accoustics during the ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner were unbelievable and then when we got the party started, his DJ skills were equally outstanding. The dance floor was packed!! Michael’s personality is what you would want from someone at your event and truly helped to make the evening as special as it was.
As a side note, my wife (and I agree) loved Michaels work so much, she was able to talk Micheal in to playing for my surprise 50th birthday party – another great event. Thanks Michael!!
MT is AMAZING!!! From our first meeting with him, we knew we wanted him to be a part of our special day. He has an incredible talent for singing, playing guitar and is a wonderful presence to be around! He completely exceeded all expectations we had…and we even got a friend out of the deal! We were referred to Michael by our wedding coordinator at the Crossings and it couldn’t have workout out better. In the pre-wedding meetings, getting ready for everything that had to be coordinated for the music, he was so great to work with. He really put us at ease in our dealings him (song selections, cermony music, communion songss) during those meetings, that we really trusted him and in his abilities.
Michael performed solo guitar at both the cermeony and the cocktail hour. His guitar playing mixed with his easy voice really helped to set the tone for the ceremony. He then switched to DJ mode for the reception. He had the ability to read what the crowd was in to and wanting, and made it all flow seemlessly. He was even able to find my the wedding song (for a 60th anniversary dance) for my wife’s grandparents.

Michael did a great job playing music for our ceremony. We got so many compliments on his talent and the beautiful music he played. He played all my favorite songs just great! He was easy to work with and flexible in playing our favorite songs even if they weren’t already on his playlist, he promised to learn them. We will always be a groupie of Michaels and plan to attend many of his future shows! We feel very confident in recommending him for any event you may need a terrific musician at. One of the best parts of our wedding, and we had an amazing wedding! We got Michaels name on a referral from another DJ that was a referral and busy for our day and we were so lucky to find him. He learned our first dance song so he could sing it acoustic with his guitar and the worst part is that I dont have any video of it! Everyone at the wedding raved about the DJ, he is worth all of the money, he really kept the wedding going and people having fun! I will hire him in an instant when we renew our vows!!!

Hiring Michael to play at our wedding was hands-down one of the best decisions we made. His heartfelt music and friendly personality set the tone for what was a dream wedding for us. After raving about the ceremony/cocktail hour music, guests hit the dance floor near the beginning of the reception and they never left!!! Everyone from our 3-year old flower girl, to our NYC 30-something friends, to our grandparents went nuts over the music!! I cannot envision our wedding running more smoothly (or being more fun!), and a lot of that had to do with Michael. He is a true professional, yet makes it look so easy. Just wanted to leave a note about Collin, who works with Michael. We had dragged our feet in looking for a DJ because we knew it was so important to the feel of the wedding, and were afraid of what we’d find. Collin was referred to us by a mutual friend, and it was perfect timing. He put all our fears to rest! He was open to our style of music, and made some great suggestions. Collin’s live music was the best part! He is so talented, with such a great voice, and our friends are still talking about him. We want him to play at our friends weddings just so that we can sit and enjoy more of his music!
